Sony to Purchase Spiderman Maker Insomniac Games

PlayStation console maker Sony Interactive Entertainment said Monday it might purchase privately held Insomniac Games Inc., recognized for developing games such as Marvel’s “Spider-Man” and third-person shooter “Ratchet & Clank” franchise.

The deal will assist the console maker, a unit of Japan’s Sony Corp, increase its game choices forward of the launch of rival game streaming companies from firms, including Alphabet Inc.’s Google, and because it prepares to unveil PlayStation 5 next year.

In its bid to keep up market share within the $150 bill here global video gaming market, Sony in March partnered with main rival Microsoft Corp, the maker of Xbox sport console, to stream games and content to consumers as well as provide game makers new development tools.
